Molton fabric is usually made of 100 percent cotton and is characterized by a roughened surface on both sides. This roughening ensures that the Molton absorbs sound and light. This effect depends significantly on the surface weight of the Molton. A distinction is made between light weight (up to about 190 g/m²) and heavy weight (from about 250 g/m²). Molton is the most widely used fabric in event technology. The reason for this is that the different weights make Molton suitable for a wide variety of applications.
What is Molton?
The term Molton comes from French and means 'soft,' but this reflects only one of the many properties of this fabric. Molton is made entirely of cotton. Molton fabric is woven in a plain weave, giving it its very sturdy texture. Rabenring Molton is roughened on both sides. This gives it its typical soft, fluffy surface. The process for producing Molton is complex and requires expertise. Therefore, the number of manufacturers worldwide is small. Rabenring Molton is made in Germany.
Where is Molton used?
Molton is an inexpensive way to darken rooms, dampen sound, or add decorative touches. Due to its open surface, Molton is highly sound-absorbing, while black stage Molton is light-tight. Molton is primarily used on stages and as lining in theaters, events, cinemas, and nightclubs. Stage Molton, decorative Molton, satin Molton, backdrops (stage backgrounds), and other qualities are used. Molton is also used for soundproofing in public buildings, photo studios, and exhibitions, as well as in the catering industry, for example, as a table cover or table mat. The possible uses of Molton are almost inexhaustible.
What does Molton B1 (fire protection) mean?
Since decorative materials in publicly accessible spaces must be non-flammable for fire safety reasons, Rabenring Molton is flame-retardant (B1). A certificate confirming the impregnation of Rabenring fabrics is available upon request.
What Molton qualities are there?
Rabenring supplies three qualities: stage molleton, satin molleton, and decorative molleton. The weight varies from 150 to 300 grams per square meter. In addition to the "classic" black molleton, we also supply molleton in various colors and for a wide variety of purposes.
