Sometimes a project is more than just an order – it's a piece of stage history that lives on. That was precisely the case when we received the commission to reconstruct and refabricate an aged stage scrim.
The initial situation
The old stage scrim had seen better days: holes, wear and tear, frayed seams – and yet, it possessed an unmistakable design that needed to be preserved. The client didn't want a simple replacement part, but a faithful reproduction with targeted improvements.
To give us the best possible foundation, he provided three valuable aids: detailed dimensioned sketches, photos of the existing scrim – and the original itself. We received precise measurements that served as the binding template for the new production.

Material Selection: Stage Scrim Meets Truck Tarpaulin
For the new production, we chose a combination of two materials that strategically played to their strengths:
- Stage scrim for the central walls – airy, translucent, and stage-appropriate
- Black truck tarpaulin for the surrounding frame, the longitudinal strips, and all load-bearing areas – robust, opaque, and durable
This combination was already present in the original – we consistently developed it further and implemented it with craftsmanlike precision.
Production in our workshop
The manufacturing began with cutting the large-format tarpaulin sheets on our large cutting table. Already here, the dimension of the project became clear: the sheets extended over the entire length of the workshop.
Subsequently, the tarpaulin and scrim were precisely sewn together – with clean seam allowances and consistent seam guidance even with difficult material combinations. Special care was taken with the transitions between scrim and tarpaulin, as different material thicknesses and properties meet here.
The finished segments received circumferential edgings, integrated zippers for assembly, and fastening straps with metal fittings – all according to the specifications of the original, but in a significantly better execution.

The Result
The finished stage scrim combines the original design with modern craftsmanship and high-quality materials. The central scrim window is neatly framed within the tarpaulin construction, all seams are even and durable, and the fastening elements are functionally reliable.
It is ready for many more years on stage – without holes, without compromises.
We were also able to delight another satisfied customer 🏆🙌 😊
